Our annual golf outing yesterday was a blast!  I think everyone enjoyed themselves very much and we couldn’t have asked for nicer weather!  Tee off was at 9:00 am, and we enjoyed a nice steak lunch/dinner after in the Pine Room at Bliss Creek Golf Club in Sugar Grove.  After dinner we presented scholarship awards to a few of our recipients.  This year the Kane County Corn Growers spent $13,500 in scholarships to our young people!  Thank you to all the door prize donors this year including:

On June 11, members of the Kane County Corn Growers assisted the Kane County Farm Bureau on part of a farm field trip for school teachers.  The educators stopped at Eldon and Sandy Gould’s farm as part of their tour.  The Kane County Corn Growers provided lunch and information as part of their experience.

Dezi DeRaedt plants soybeans May 30, 2013

The soybean plot was planted on May 30.  Thank you to Nick Nagele who provided us with a donation of NK beans for the plot.  Treatments for this plot will be discussed at our next board meeting and published when they become available.

Tillage was competed today in preparation for the KCCG annual corn variety plot.  Hopefully we get the plot planter here tomorrow.  This year we will be planting the corn plot with a “FIRST” plot planter.  This will be a randomized, replicated plot, in order to take field variability out of the equation.  We are hoping to provide the best data possible this fall to our members and participating seed companies.

2013 Kane County Corn Growers scholarship winners have been announced!  This year your association has invested $13,500 in our young people’s education.  This is a program that we are very proud of, and will continue as long as we are able.  Scholarship money will be presented to the recipients this year either at our annual golf outing, or at this year’s annual meeting.  More details will follow on the time and place of the presentations.  Continue reading to see the 2013 winners…….. Stakes have been added to the plot indicating where the FIRST trials are to be planted.  If everything goes right, we should be planting within 1 week from today.
